Cooley Residence

This project was a decade in the making. EdenScapes built the front courtyard about ten years before the backyard. For five of those years, we met with the homeowners every year to talk through ideas for the back. When the timing was right, we designed and built it. The result turns the backyard into a complete outdoor living space, combining hardscape, landscape, water, fire, and lighting into areas that feel connected to the home and its mature trees. Paver patios and walkways run through the property in one consistent material. Retaining and seating walls give the yard structure and create easy transitions between the planting beds, the open lawn, and the main living spaces.

A custom circular fire pit set into the pavers is a natural gathering spot. A large fountain adds a second focal point, bringing movement and sound to the stonework and plantings. Layered beds soften the patios, walls, and walkways, adding greenery, texture, and seasonal interest while letting each hardscape feature stand out. After dark, lighting along the walls and walkways defines each space, and accent lights pick out the trees and plantings. With the stone lit up, the fire going, and the fountain running, the backyard takes on a different character at night, a place to gather, entertain, and relax well into the evening.
